yoshiko busy on stage at hair expo by Dani Blakeley

Yoshiko Hair had a busy weekend at Hair Expo on the weekend. Both Artistic Director Dani Blakeley and our apprentice Caroline graced the stage at Hair Expo.

Caroline who was a finalist in Hair Expo Apprentice of the Year, took to the stage for first time. On Saturday she  did the salon proud as she recreated one of the looks from her award winning collection. With Dani comparing, Caroline captivated the audience. Caroline undertook a second show on the Sunday with the other finalist in Apprentice of the Year, in front of a capacity crowd.

Dani used her vast experience of years of stage work, to compare the main stage at Hair Expo, on the Monday. She did this on behalf of the Australian Hairdressing Council, which Yoshiko Hair is a member.

Monday was the long awaited awards night, where unfortunately Caroline missed out being judged the Apprentice of the Year. Still to be one of six finalist (all from top salons) across Australia, where there are over 7000  hairdressing apprentices is a major achievement. We shall look forward to seeing Caroline on stage in the future, with many opportunities coming her way.

Well done to all the finalist. We are looking forward to when Hair Expo next year comes to Melbourne, where Yoshiko shall will have even a bigger role to play.

choosing the right hair colour for your skin tone - stkilda hairdresser yoshiko hair by Dani Blakeley

Finding the right hair colour for your skin tone, can take years off your age.

People suit cool or warm tones. At Yoshiko we are able to determine which hair colour will suit you. People that suit cool tones have blue/pink skin undertones. While warm complexions have gold/yellow skin undertones.

If you are a cool tone then the following hair colours shall suit you:
Brunettes will look great with cool chocolate, violet brown, mocha brown and ash brown.
Blondes will look great with ash blonde, platinum and champagne.
Reds will look great with berry red, mahogany and plum.

If you are a warm tone then the following hair colours shall suit you:
Brunettes will look great with rich warm chocolates, copper brown and caramel.
Blondes will look great with golden blonde, honey blonde and strawberry blonde.
Reds will look great with copper, auburn and titian.

You can wear colour that isn't in your tone, but bear in mind you need to wear more makeup. Without make up will mean that you look tired when you have the wrong hair colour. Yet if you are young and like strong trend colours, just enjoy.

Yoshiko team members are regularly call upon to give hair colour forecast around the globe. All the above internationally published images were created by Yoshiko.

The right hairstyle for your face shape. by Richard Cooke

When choosing the right hairstyle for you, you need to consider the shape of your face.

Round

Celebrities with a round face include, Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, and Kirsten Dunst.

Long hair can look great but not to long and with layers and a side parting. Sort sweeping side fringes look great as they open up the forehead. Medium length is also good especially asymmetric styles, if you are favoring a bob make sure its not chin length keep the front longer and take the hair shorter at the back. Short hair can work really well so well as the length around the face isn’t inline with the chin, I recommend around the middle of the ear and textured and soft not blunt, undercuts and asymmetry also can look amazing. Avoid too much bulk if you have very thick and frizzy or bulky hair consider a keratin treatment to reduce bulk.

Oval

Celebrities pictured below such as Charliz Theron, Anne Hathaway and Alexia Chung. If you have an oval face shape consider yourself to be very fortunate as any hairstyle will look great on you.

Heart

Celebrities pictured below with heart shaped faces include Reece Witherspoon, Ginifer Goodwin, and Katie Holmes.

If you have a heart shaped face short pixie haircuts look great to draw attention to cheekbones and eyes. Longer hair looks great with side swept fringes and soft layers. Bobs also look great but keep your bobs around chin length or longer not above the chin.

Square

Celebrities pictured below with square faces include Gwent Patrol and Keera Knietly.

If you have a square shaped face Long Hair with layers worn either wavy or straight. Long bobs look amazing especially shorter at the back leaving the length at the front and worn with a bit of body and texture. Short hair can also work but keep the fringe area longer and sweep over to one side this creates softness. Avoid pulling hair straight back from the face.

Long

Celebrities Pictured below with a long face include Jennifer Garner and Jerry Hall.

If you are going to wear your hair long and you have a long face you need to always wear it with lots of body and wave. Fringes also look great if you have a long face. Medium length is my favorite, once again worn with lots of body and wave. Blunt bobs can also look amazing with or without fringes. Short hair can also work well but with hair on the face.
